Photographer, Video Producer, Traveler and Pasta Lover.

My friends call me Rikki, a mispronunciation of my last name. I love to travel, and I love taking photos - sometimes to the point of obsession. When I'm not looking through the camera's viewfinder, I make travel videos for Lonely Planet. But my real passion remains with photography. I wake up, and the first thing I want is to grab that camera. During trips I'm usually happiest when I'm looking through the view finder. I admit, I am also a bit of a techie, and I use both my skills and knowledge in capturing the best possible picture, from the time I take off the lens cap all the way to digital post processing.

My subjects are usually panoramic landscapes, rural and urban scenery, night photography and macro photography. I would however, like to photograph more people. But for now, I enjoy nature and the scenery I come across wherever the road takes me.

Thank you for checking my work, and I hope you find something you like. Feel free to let me know your thoughts, or share some pasta recipes!

ARTIST STATEMENT Photography

I love color. In fact, most of the time, color is the main reason why I take photographs. I also value form, structure, lighting and composition as do most photographers, but there is something about seeing nature's colors the way the camera sees it, before you even take the photo. I train myself to see things this way. We are so used to our natural surroundings that we sometimes neglect to see the beauty in it. I know it sounds cliche, but this conscious mental exercise is a personal practice of mindfulness, of being in the moment. The specific time during that snapshot has energy, and it is my desire to capture that energy and let my photographs become catalysts of emotions; story tellers of something that is simple yet beautiful.

I also love to color. When you see something beautiful in nature, it wows you. I want my photographs to do the same. I want them to elicit feelings and thoughts. To trigger sensations, or provoke a certain consciousness. In this digital age, anyone can shoot a photo, but not everyone can develop them. I feel that by also being a designer, I can express my uniqueness and my abilities as an artist using photography as a medium. Most photographers evade altering photos. I am not one of those. I am not afraid of color or to color. (Inversely, I also take away color, muting my photographs or turning them into black and white for artistic license). I am not ashamed to admit I enhance my photos - and it is by no means to misrepresent, but to affirm and exercise my creative skills. This does not mean my ability as a photographer is reliant on my design or post-production skills. They are in fact, very distinct from one another. Being that photography is a very technical form of art, applying technique to it - both during and in developing - makes this once esoteric art more personal to me.
